Eucatex Efforts and Focus On Business Sustainability

Eucatex is one of the largest suppliers of materials to furniture and construction businesses in Brazil The publicly-traded Brazilian company that produces a variety of products. Started in 23rd November 1951, Eucatex started out as a manufacturer of soft boards, ceiling tiles and panels. The raw material used was Eucalyptus, from which the company derives its name.

LinkedIn wrote that between the years 1956 and 1965, the company expanded its operations by opening offices in several Brazilian cities as well as Buenos Aires in Argentina. By 1965, the company was exporting ceiling tiles and panels to Europe.

In the period between 1960s and 1980s, the company expanded both its markets and products. It spread to more than 50 countries, including the UK, the USA, Holland and Germany. It diversified its businesses to become a player in diverse industries such as wood, forestry, metals and minerals.

In the 1990s, the product categories grew to include paints and varnishes initially manufactured to serve the company’s needs.

To ensure success in the future, Eucatex has turned to business sustainability. Eucatex has undertaken various projects to ensure its operational are sustainable and eco-friendly. On top of that, it has been actively involved in various activities meant to raise environmental awareness and making the world a greener place.

The company has several initiatives towards this. It has an Environmental Policy and a Wood Buying Policy to ensure the environment is not degraded. It has a recycling program in place to minimize waste and reuse wood waste. The company also undertakes socio-environmental actions to safeguard the environment. Various community projects are initiated to benefit local communities and to reduce their reliance on the environment for resources like firewood.

Another way is by working with local communities to grow Eucalyptus. Eucatex leases property from rural owners for a given period, for which the owners receive payment. The project, dubbed “The Forestry Partnership and Leasing Project”, ensures local communities benefit from Eucatex’s operations. Eucatex is assured of a source of raw materials while being able to sustainably exploit the natural resource.

Eucatex sponsored a documentary in 2012 on environmental preservation in Sao Paulo’s only preservation marine park. The documentary, called Laje dos Sonhos, shows man’s interaction with the Parque Esadual Marinho da Laje de Santos. The documentary was produced under the tenure of the current CEO of Eucatex, Mr. FlavioMaluf.

Mr. FlavioMaluf has been the CEO of Eucatex since 2005. He is an experienced businessman having held various positions in a number of boards. They include the Board of Executive Offices at Eucatex S.A. He is also a politician and a congressman. In the past, he has also served as a governor and mayor of Sao Paulo.
