On the heels of the 2018 holiday shopping season, Microsoft has unveiled a new $499 Surface Go computer. As reported by ZDNet, the new Windows 10-powered tablet features 4 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage space and an Intel 4415Y processor.
Although it looks like a tablet, the Surface Go is actually a two-in-one computer, meaning it can be used as either a tablet or a laptop. The touchscreen-compatible display detaches from the keyboard to mimic the characteristics of a traditional tablet. If a consumer wants to use the Surface Go as a laptop, he or she can reattach the display to the keyboard. The Surface Go isn’t the first two-in-one computer to hit the market, but it’s favored among consumers for its powerful hardware and low sale price.
Microsoft first launched its Surface Go two-in-one computers on Aug. 2, 2018. At the time, however, it only offered two variants: a $399 model featuring 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage as well as a $549 model featuring 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Microsoft’s latest variant offers an attractive choice for consumers who want a powerful two-in-one computer without spending $549.
The new Surface Go computer also comes preloaded with Windows 10 S. Microsoft’s answer to Google’s Chrome operating system, Windows 10 S is a slimmed-down operating system that offers better performance and security than the standard version of Windows 10. It supports integration with the Microsoft Store, allowing users to easily download and install apps on their two-in-one computer.
The new Surface Go is available to purchase on Microsoft’s official website for $499. Microsoft is planning to release new Surface Go models later this year. So, if you’re thinking of buying one of Microsoft’s popular two-in-one computers, you may want to wait to see what else the Redmond tech company has in store.
