Capital Expenditure Increases in the Technology Industry

Over the course of the last century, there has been an incredible development in the technology that is used by the world. It was not that long ago that individuals were still using a horse and buggy to get around. Today you are able to simply hop on a plane and be across the world in a matter of hours. It probably comes as no surprise that one of the largest drivers of the economy today is the technology industry.
In the first quarter of the financial year of 2018, one of the largest drivers of capital investment has been stocks from technology companies instead of the traditional industrial giants. When you take a look at the numbers, you will see that capital expenditures are on the path to a growth of 25.9%. Over half of that growth is being driven by companies in the information technology industry. This growth is pushing technology companies stocks to a five-year high. A disproportionate amount of this growth has been posted by Google and Microsoft. A smaller but still significant percentage of this growth has been by companies related to cloud computing and semi conductors.
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/02/technology-companies-are-driving-a-capital-spending-surge.html
Earlier this year Pres. Donald Trump decreased the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21%. The extra capital that this decrease has generated has mostly gone into dividends and share buybacks rather than capital investments that are the typical movers of economic growth.
Industrial corporations are actually decreasing the amount of capital they use for investment. In fact, across the board, the overall rate of capital expenditure is decreasing except for that of the technology industry.
Consumer discretionary spending is another area that is pushing forward growth in capital expenditure however much of that comes from Amazon, another technology company. Capital expenditure is even increasing amongst smaller companies in the technology industry as many of them have been able to increase their spending. The overall growth rate is up to 48% during this quarter.
This will likely continue in the long term however in the short term for the rest of this year rate of growth are expected to decrease.

Self-Driving With Uber

Autonomy is the way of the future. Uber’s self-driving trucks are on the forefront of autonomous self-driving vehicles for their customers. Uber’s customers can access the on demand shipping app, Uber Freight, to have these self-driving trucks transport their commercial cargo.

Trucking is the perfect industry for automation, given the fact automated trucks can remain on the highway for longer amounts of time than trucks driven by humans. After a year since Uber tested their self-driving trucks of 2,000 cases of Budweiser in Colorado, the company is advancing their autonomous trucks on the highways of Arizona.

The process of using Uber’s self-driving trucks involves both a human driven truck and a self-driven truck. The cargo is first loaded by a human driven truck where the cargo is taken to a transfer hub. The cargo is then loaded onto a long haul freight truck. The self-driving truck will transport the cargo for the longer portions of the trip. For the shorter portions of the trip, the cargo is handed off once again to a human driven truck.

Uber’s Advanced Technology Group is testing these self-driving trucks on their platform. The Uber Freight app handles connecting shippers with human drivers. The company is working to create a commercial system of connecting shippers and those needing items shipped similar to their ride-hailing app Uber.

In a video by Uber, which can be seen at https://techcrunch.com/2018/03/06/uber-self-driving-trucks-are-now-moving-cargo-for-uber-freight-customers/ there is a detailed depiction of the process of how these self-driving trucks transport cargo.

Because of these type of trucks, the nature of truck driver’s job may change. However, Uber expresses its goal is not to eliminate trucking jobs. Human drivers will still be needed to back up the trucks to a loading dock or direct the truck around busy industrial areas.

This is a major milestone for the ride-hailing company as they surge into the world of self-driving trucks. Their autonomous truck technology puts the company ahead of some of its competitors aspiring to do the same, such as Embark Trucking. It is great to see the progress a company like Uber is making in the self-driving truck business.

Is Magic Leap Truly Bringing The Stadium Experience Home?

If you have recently watched a sporting event, you might notice that the stands do not seem to be quite as full as they did in years past. Part of this is because of the increases in technology over recent years. Large screen televisions as large as 55 inches in size could be found in recent weeks after the Super bowl at big box retailers for under $300. This has made it much more convenient to watch a game at home. That’s just the beginning though now that a recent agreement was announced between Magic Leap, Turner Sports and the National Basketball Association to broadcast NBA games using the new Magic Leap technology.

The lenses that are worn for the Magic Leap system don’t just let a fan view the game, he is immersed into the entire game day experience. Fans can walk and view the game fro different angles on the court. Scoreboards are visible for fans to keep track of the rest of the action throughout the league. NBA players such as Andre Iguodala and Shaquille O’Neal have tested the viewing lenses produced by Magic Leap and walked away impressed.

Not everyone will be able feel like their home has been transformed into a NBA arena though, according to the CEO of Magic Leap, Rony Abovitz. Mr. Abovitz indicated that the technology is not cheap to produce, and therefore the end product will be quite expensive. Exact prices were not addressed, for the Magic Leap which will come in two sizes. The viewer will also have an option for corrective lenses to customize the Magic Leap viewer for customers.

The question now becomes how quickly the technology will catch on. In the end the biggest question will be if it can be produced at a price point that will allow the average sports fan to view the game. Imagine attending that NFL conference championship with a view just like you are in the first row of the stadium, but without sitting in those frigid temperatures, a very tempting proposition indeed. It’s actually so tempting that even owners of teams in the NBA, an indoor sport, have decided to invest to get in early on the potential income and limit their potential losses.

McTech: The Golden Arches of the Future

When Steve Easterbrook took over as CEO of McDonalds in 2015, he knew things had to change. With technology getting bigger and better every day, McDonald’s was falling behind the curve. Since taking over Easterbrook has implemented changes using new forms of technology to bring McDonald’s back up to the forefront of fast food.

Just prior to Easterbrook taking the reigns of CEO of McDonald’s, the corporation started using ordering kiosks to see how customers reacted to them. Speculation was that the kiosks would mean less jobs for actual people, however that is not the case. Since their introduction many more locations have adopted the ordering kiosks. Instead of taking away jobs, they have just speeded up the ordering process. Employee’s still deliver the meals to you once they have been made. This is just the first of a few “upgrades” that Easterbrook has put into place to put McDonald’s ahead of the curve.

Mobile applications are a part of our everyday life, from ordering food to keeping in touch with loved ones. We all use apps every single day, and Easterbrook knows that which is why last year they rolled out the all new McDonald’s app. The biggest and most anticipated feature that came with the new application in 2017 was the ordering capabilities. Smartphone users can order and pay for their order using the application and then pick it up at the Drive-Thru. McDonald’s has stated that there are over twenty million users of it’s application.

Ever have a craving for a large fry and shake, but can’t get to the golden arches on your own? Well with new technology and a partnership with Uber Eats, you can now get your favorite McDonald’s food delivered to you. Starting in late 2016 and throughout 2017 McDonald’s had rolled out the Uber Eats program to over five thousand of their establishments. They plan to have it available in twice as many stores by 2019. Of course with this convenience comes a higher cost. Expect a check for one of these orders to be at least one and a half times higher than it would be if you picked up your food yourself.

Like the rest of the world, technology has it’s place in fast food. McDonald’s has done a good job at using technology to make their service better, quicker and more catering to the customer. It will be interesting to see how they continue to improve service as technology advances. Is Facebook Spying On Your Conversations With Latest Form Of Advertising Technology?

It seems like almost everyone these days has a Facebook. Dogs, grandmothers, and everyone in between are creating profiles on the popular social media site. With so many users and so much information being shared, some people begin to wonder about the safety of it all. Afterall, Facebook seems to know more about you than your family might even know. When does Facebook cross the line of what they do with that information?

It’s no secret that advertisements will pop up on your Facebook, and they will be geared at something you’ve searched for recently. This may be anything from a type of product you bought to the browsing for car insurance that you may have been doing. That’s because Facebook works with advertisers and has been known to sell information to them. Surprisingly, that hasn’t been cause for concern. Now, there are some accusations that Facebook is taking technology too far, and it’s freaking people out.

According to Reddit, many people are coming forward to say that Facebook is listening in on conversations via a mobile microphone. People came to this conclusion after they remembered having conversations with friends or family and then seeing an advertisement pop up that they were just talking about. It’s enough to freak anyone out! Facebook has denied any form of spying. Recently, a worker for Facebook took to Twitter to deny using user’s microphones to come out with targeted advertisements. Many are then left to wonder if it’s just a weird coincidence or if technology really is that advanced and there’s something Facebook is not telling us.

Many believe that it’s just coincidental when they’re talking about something obscure, only to have it show up a few minutes later. Facebook has even confirmed that technically they have the technology to accompany this. That’s because Facebook has a feature that allows users to opt-in so that Facebook can listen to music and television playing in order to help a user create a better status. The company says this is never used for advertising.

At the end of the day, many are siding with Facebook. They say that it’s hard to imagine a company would just throw everything away to use this advanced form of advertising technology. Time will tell if Facebook will eventually utilize this technology in the future.

Galaxy Note 8 Slated for August Release

Samsung has made it official. According to CNet, the mobile giant will be rolling out its next giant phone and then hope and pray the exploding that’s going on is sales. The Galaxy Note 8 is slated for an August release and the company will be looking to put the disaster of the Note 7 behind it when the new Phablet launches.

The company allowed for the mention of the Galaxy Note 8 but then clammed up when it came time to give any details. What we do know is that this will be the first big test as to whether or not the company has actually fixed the issue it was running into when it came to an exploding battery.

There are other design flaws analysts are hoping Samsung will fix with this latest release. The company has released a kind of fingerprint scanner that is similar to what the iPhones offer. The problem so far, has been when those scanners are released, they tended to be above the glass.

This allowed them to get dirty and to scratch and would then stop working. Considering the scanners were used to unlock the phone and handle mobile payments, that became more than a small problem. Of course, there were ways to unlock the phone using a code, but that made the point of having the finger print scanner at all rather pointless.

Samsung is going to have to hit it out of the park, because they will have steep competition, especially in late August. Apple is expected to be rolling out its 10th-anniversary phone and most expect there to be some serious bells and whistles attached. Until either phone is officially announced, we’re going to have to wait and see just what the companies have decided to offer up to the public.

The Osteo Relief Institute Great Works in the Health Sector

Osteoarthritis (OA) is defined as a degenerative disease of the joints. It can also be referred to as degenerative arthritis. In summary, it refers to all joint conditions that experience pain. There are over 100 types and the condition is affecting a sum of over 50 million Americans. It can affect both genders but is more common to women than men. It can also be considered as the primary source of disability in the world.

It mainly occurs when the cartilage, a strong-rubber material in the joints that covers both ends of every bone breaks down, causing swelling, pain, and problems when it comes to moving the joint. The cartilage acts as a smooth cushion between bones. When they break down, spurs are produced which end up floating around the joints. Spurs are growths that swell after the bones break down. Through inflammatory, enzymes and proteins develop and they further destroy the cartilage. Finally, it wears away making bones to rub against each other causing more joint injuries and severe pain (http://www.edgewaterosteoreliefinstitute.com/)

The main causes of osteoarthritis are hereditary. Other sources include being overweight, previous injuries, and old age, especially people who are about 65 years. The disadvantage is that there is no cure to treat it, but there are ways to manage the pain and swelling. This can be achieved through medical treatments, therapy, daily exercise, and routine. Excessive pain and swelling may finally lead one to undergo surgery to execute its removal. The operations include joint fusions, repair, and replacements.

How Monitors Are Improving Entertainment and Technology

There have been a lot of changes to the entertainment industry. For one thing, the technology for watching movies and playing games always involved one aspect ratio. As a result, if there is anything that has been produced for a different ratio, then it has to either be cropped or letterboxed. As a result, there has been some confusion and disappointment in the results. Now, Samsung has been at work in bringing tons of innovation to people. For one thing, they have come up with different shapes of monitors beyond the 16:9 aspect ratio. They have brought forth 21:9, 2.4:1, and now 32:9.

These monitors come with a lot of good potential for entertainment. For one thing, it is no longer necessary to put up with those annoying black bars. This also encourages producers of games and movies to experiment with alternate aspect ratios. They no longer have to deal with the complaints of black bars from customers that just want to have their screens filled. Customers are also going to be made aware of different options for aspect ratios. This makes it really fun for people who may want to have different options for entertainment.

While these monitors are amazing to look at, it is highly unlikely that these monitors are going to be translated to televisions. HDTVs are going to maintain their 16:9 ratio for a long time to come. Another thing that is makes these monitors unique is that they have a slightly higher resolutions than UHD televisions. They are a bit closer to theatrical 4K as opposed to the home version of 4K. Therefore, as technology develops, people will eventually get to see how powerful these items can be.

Samsung Brings Forth A New Aspect Ratio For Computer Monitors

While people are marveling at the change in aspect ratios for TVs, Samsung has been releasing a lot of new monitors of different aspect ratios for computers. The computer world already has TVs beat with the new 21:9 sets which are roughly the shape of CinemaScope theater screens. Now, Samsung has released two new aspect ratios. One is the 2.4:1 monitor and the staggering 32:9 monitor. The 32:9 monitor is the widest that one is going to get. To make things even better, the screens are curved for the monitors which give it a cinematic quality.

Customers are initially going to use it for gaming. However, there are other uses for it. For one thing, this gives people the chance to watch some of their favorite movies in their full aspect ratio without having to put up with black bars that come with letterboxing. However, as with the movie theaters, some movies are going to be in a smaller aspect ratio and will appear in the middle of the screen with black bars on the side of the image. For the 2.4:1 screen, some films will not have black bars. However, the 32:9 device is going to always have black bars on the side because there are no films that have been shot in that ratio. However, it is exciting to watch even ultra wide movies and experience the full effect of 70MM spectacles like How The West Was Won.

One of the best things about these different aspect ratios is that it is allowing more room for art. As one would know, many paintings are shown in a wide variety of aspect ratios. The attempts to make everything uniform is rather criminal.

Internet Streaming Is Gaining More Customers from Cable

Among the changes that this society is undergoing is in the entertainment industry. For one thing, it used to be cable that was considered one of the premium ways to get entertainment. As a matter of fact, there was a point when the choices that people had were signals from the airwaves, cable television and then the relatively new satellite television. However, the internet has eventually brought forth something better. This is streaming services. This has gotten people to make the switch at a steady rate. For one thing, internet streaming has brought forth a lot of advantages that people have come to enjoy.

Among the advantages that people are able to enjoy are more options with the shows. Among the options that people have is the episodes of their chosen shows they can watch and the time they can watch them. When one compares this to having to wait until a certain time slot to watch any episode, this is one of the major advantages that people can hope for with internet streaming.

Another aspect of internet streaming businesses that beat out all of the cable TV businesses is the customer service. A lot of customers are not happy with the service that is given to them from cable companies. However, internet streaming has a much improved customer service. For one thing, people could reach the service provider through phone, email, or other means. It is no wonder people prefer services from mobile providers and internet streaming service.

All of the shows that are on cable TV are available for the internet. As a matter of fact, the internet also has a ton of exclusive shows. Therefore, when people are faced with dropping one service for another, they are more likely to drop the cable services. As a matter of fact, cable is obsolete. Even satellite TV is having a hard time keeping up with the services that are offered by internet streaming services.
